Architect: Onix Architekten (Groningen), Object: Utrecht, Netherlands, glazed thin bricks, Living in the clouds ...

Who does not once dream to live in a cloud? This is what the architect Haiko Meijer from Onix Architects and the building owner Student Housing Foundation (SSH) also had in mind.

By using the design tool glazed thin bricks this dream became reality for many students. Our inconspicuous sort R140UT15 was glazed in naturalistic blue and white by the ceramic factory Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, one of the oldest companies of in the Netherlands. This was the foundation stone for the heavenly building. About 8,700 square metres of façade were processed for the residential home “Johanna” which now accommodates 655 students of many nationalities in Utrecht. The students live here in a cloud, a genuine paradise with top-equipped rooms and a beautiful outdoor area with a view to the adjacent forest Amelisweerd.
